About
Name: Zi Yuan, Toh
Nickname: Kale
Kale. Since he was young, he had a huge interest in computers. During kindergarten, he gamed a PC to death. Imagine a smoking monitor from just playing Grand Prix! It wasn’t until he was Primary 2 before he got a chance to mess around with a new PC. Memories include playing Lode Runner 2 while having a 39-degree fever (and snapping at his Dad who wanted to him to stop playing). When he saw his elder sister messing around with personal homepages, he started doing so too. He was the kid that teachers called on in class for IT help. He was the kid who started touch typing before everyone else. He was the kid who looked over the guy who came to fix the PC. He was the kid who looked over his mum’s friend who came to upgrade the PC. He was the kid who downloaded a crappy Back to the Future 30-second clip on a 33.6Kbps modem. Horrible wait time back then, and once you closed the browser… Damn.
At the end of 1999, his life in IT sped up. First kid on the block with a 15″ LCD display, a Pentium 2 600MHz system with a whopping 128MB RAM and 27GB hard disk! And in Secondary 2, his family switched ISP. A cable modem. 1.5Mbps. He started online gaming. Messed around with Rogue Spear, even winning competitions in Secondary 3. When his elder sister got a new laptop for school, it seemed like he spent more time with it than she did. By 2003, the laptop practically became his.
He also started picking up on photography. While it was just simple point-and-shoot in Secondary school, his interest doubled in JC, with him assuming the post of Chief Photographer in his school’s Photographic Society.
He served his National Service between December 2004 and December 2006.
Kale is currently a student of the University of Wollongong, to acquire a Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science (Multimedia and Game Development) at the SIM Singapore campus, and is due to graduate in June 2010.
